Lights, Logic & Launch! Sparks Curiosity and Innovation at Dothan STEM Saturday
Students and families from across the Wiregrass region came together on Saturday, August 22, 2026, for Lights, Logic & Launch!, the first event in the Dothan STEM Saturdays series. Hosted at the Wiregrass Innovation Center, the free event gave K–12 students an opportunity to explore coding, electricity, engineering, and computational thinking through engaging, hands-on STEM experiences.
Throughout the morning, students became creators, problem-solvers, and engineers as they explored how technology and engineering work together. During Let There Be Light, students investigated the fundamentals of electricity by building open and closed circuits while learning about conductivity and basic engineering concepts.
In the Coding, Circuits & Maker Lab, students strengthened their computational thinking and creativity through activities including Binary Bracelets, Cup-Stacking Coding, Pixel Art, Paper Circuits, Logic Puzzles, and Human Robot Programming. Each activity encouraged students to experiment, collaborate, think critically, and learn through discovery.
Building STEM Opportunities in the Wiregrass
Lights, Logic & Launch! marked the launch of a monthly series designed to bring accessible, high-quality STEM learning experiences directly to students and families throughout the Dothan community.
Through hands-on learning, Dothan STEM Saturdays gives young people opportunities to build confidence in problem-solving, explore emerging technologies, and discover future pathways in science, technology, engineering, and innovation.
The August experience was hosted by The Alabama Collective, sponsored by the City of Dothan and Wiregrass Foundation, with STEM activities facilitated by Ed Tech and B. Wade Consulting.
What’s Next for Dothan STEM Saturdays?
The learning continues on Saturday, September 19, 2026, with Float, Build, & Conquer! at the Izell Reese Community Center. Students will explore buoyancy, engineering, design thinking, creativity, and teamwork through hands-on challenges that encourage them to design, build, test, and improve their ideas.
Dothan STEM Saturdays will continue throughout the fall with new themes and experiences designed to expose students to STEM while creating opportunities to learn, explore, and innovate right in their community.
