his exciting competition invites students, alumni, faculty, and staff from Alabama HBCUs to showcase their creativity, tech prowess, and app development skills while competing for $15,000 in cash prizes!
About the Event:
The App Build & Pitch Competition is an opportunity for HBCU Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni teams to showcase their creativity and tech prowess by building an application and then pitching it to key stakeholders, investors, and possible employers. Our competition invites HBCU students, alumni, faculty, and staff to shine a spotlight on their software application development skills, cultivate practical skills, and vie for resources that can transform their ideas into tangible realities.

Competition Objectives
THE
ASK
Each team will build an application (in whatever language they desire) on a topic of their choice and will have an opportunity to pitch a working demonstration of the application to a panel of judges. Please note: Wireframes are not accepted; teams must present functional applications.
THE
REWARD
The Top Ten teams will be provided an all-expenses-paid trip to Montgomery, Alabama, to participate in a full-day ecosystem-building workshop and compete in Rounds 2 and 3, culminating in the Pitch Finale. Prizes range from $1,000 to $10,000.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Please note that all participants must adhere to the specified application deadline. You must submit your 5-minute video pitches by 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Please use the evaluation criteria and video requirements as a guide to assist you in creating your video submission.
EVALUATION PROCESS
A panel of esteemed judges will rigorously assess the quality of the application demonstrated, the clarity of the pitch, and the innovation and feasibility of the idea. Click here to view the judging criteria.
From the pool of applicants, the judges will meticulously curate a selection of 10 finalists who will be announced on Friday, March 28, 2025.
